Barcelona Wine Week concludes its largest edition as a key international event
Barcelona Wine Week has closed a record-breaking edition, solidifying its position as the world’s leading trade fair for premium Spanish wine. Over three days, a total of 1,266 wineries from 81 Designations of Origin (D.O.s) across Spain showcased their finest wines to top national and international buyers. The event has now firmly established itself as the best platform for expanding into new international markets.
Barcelona Wine Week (BWW), the flagship trade fair for premium Spanish wine, wraps up this Wednesday at Fira de Barcelona with record-breaking figures: 1,266 wineries from 81 D.O.s and nearly 25,700 professional visitors, 20% of whom were international. For the first time, and in its fifth edition, the event expanded into two pabillions to accommodate high demand, further establishing its status as the largest international business platform for the Spanish wine sector.
Without leaving Spain, BWW provides access to key international buyers from major retail chains, hospitality, foodservice, and specialized trade. The event facilitated more than 13,000 business meetings between exhibiting companies and over 1,000 major national buyers, as well as 770 key international importers from strategic markets such as the United States, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, China, Mexico, Japan, Brazil, Colombia, and South Korea. These international buyers were invited by BWW in collaboration with ICEX. Additionally, the economic impact of the event on Barcelona is estimated at approximately €17 million.
Following the success of its fifth edition, which saw a 30% increase in both exhibitor numbers and exhibition space, attention now turns to 2026. BWW will maintain its expanded two-hall pabillions, with the next edition scheduled for February 2-4, 2026.
Javier Pagés, President of BWW and the D.O. Cava, stated: “Once again, the event has demonstrated its immense drawing power, positioning itself as the best commercial platform for key national and international players in the sector through a unique trade fair concept.”
Over the course of three days, more than 360,000 wine tastings were served, featuring wines from major producers as well as hundreds of small and medium-sized wineries represented across 81 Designations of Origin and other quality seals. The most prominent D.O.s at the event included Ribera del Duero, D.O.Ca La Rioja, D.O.Q. Priorat, and D.O. Cava, followed by Rías Baixas, Navarra, Rueda, Montsant, V.T. Mallorca, Penedès, and D.O.P. Jumilla.
The Finest Sommeliers and Masters of Wine
More than 160 experts, Masters of Wine, sommeliers, critics, and renowned winemakers participated in the event’s activities, analyzing the sector’s major challenges and macro trends across more than 70 tastings and presentations. This edition focused on the revaluation of old vines while also addressing pressing topics such as wineries’ adaptation to climate change and the surge in white wine popularity. Among the featured speakers were esteemed Masters of Wine, including Fernando Mora, Doug Frost, Sarah Jane Evans, and Pedro Ballesteros.
The event was organized in collaboration with Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (MAPA); ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones; the Catalan Tourism Agency; INCAVI-Prodeca; the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV); and the Interprofessional Wine Organization of Spain (OIVE). It also received support from Cajamar, Spain’s leading cooperative banking group.
